EVIDENCE OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH

         Teaching is not only about discussing and delivering the day to day lesson to the learners. It is also include in teaching the important role of teachers as part of the community particularly doing community services. The ability of a teacher to extend their responsibilities not only inside the classroom but also outside of it is another gauge of their commitment in their chosen profession. The direction of teaching experience deeply rely on their ability to involved in various community service the quietly help the community to its problem that facing. Also involving in it will improve their socialization process and much important thing that they can get in involving it can increase their awareness about their community.

            As I had my practice teaching, we are required to do some community services and to make it happen, I participated in the clean- up drive led by the YES-O Club of the school and Science teachers. We had our clean-up drive in one of the Sitio of the barangay. We bring cleaning materials such as brooms, sacks and dustpans. Together with our students we clean the surrounding and collected all the wastes that we see. Grass fillings plastics from snacks and other wastes our some of our collection. The clean-up drive lasted in an hour because we haven’t collected much wastes. As I see, our community practiced segregation and the folks managed well their wastes. Their wastes are put in a plastic or sack and if the day of collection came they discharge their wastes depending on the day of collection. This policy was implemented by the municipal government to lessen the barangay people in burn their wastes. I also witnessed the strong commitment of the community in various ordinance implemented by the barangay about waste management. In the part of barangay council, they really intensify the implemented ordinances in the barangay for the folks to comply with their ordinances. So, the consequences of their hard works, the barangay is safe from floods and other calamity because of the good implementation of ordinances about waste management.

            The important lesson I learned in the community service we did is that we citizens has the ability to help and contribute to the community even in a simple thing like this. One day of cleaning the surrounding is enough to settle the problem of waste but the main purpose of the clean-up drive is to show to the community that we the school staffs is concerned with our environment for them to simulate our intensive care to the environment.
